How To Shoot: 30 Day Photo Challenge Day 10

by How To Mommy on 10.10.11

Today’s topic for the photo challenge stumped me at first: A childhood memory.  How would I capture a childhood memory on camera?  While I was in the process of my closet cleaning project, inspiration hit!

Day 10: Childhood Memory

A few times a year, I go through my closet and take out the “old, out-dated, don’t-like-anymore, doesn’t-fit-right-anymore” clothes.  Once I’m finished, I always drop them off at my local Goodwill.

I started to think about why it was I had done this countless times in my adult life, and realized it was my very own childhood memory!

A few times a year, when we were going to be getting new school clothes or changing out our summer/winter wardrobe, my mom always had us take out clothes we didn’t want anymore.  After the piles had been divided, hand-me-downs had been handed down, she always took the rest of the clothes and donated them.

At the time, I didn’t realize she was teaching us something.  In fact, I’m not even sure she realized she was teaching us anything.  But the lesson was that giving to charity {whether monetarily, through my time, or through my personal donations} should be something I do instinctively and frequently.

Thanks to my mom, it is.

I hope my everyday behaviors cause similar results in my own daughters someday.
