How To Beat the Heat

by How To Mommy on 06.30.11

When I think back on what “summer” meant growing up, it had two constants.  Pool and sun.

We lived across the street from the neighborhood pool and would go down there when it opened at 1 PM and hang out until it closed (or they kicked us out) at 9 PM.  If we were really lucky, my mom would run down dinner and we wouldn’t have to spend our hard earned money on snack bar concessions.

Then, when I was old enough, I passed the lifeguard certification exams and worked at the pool.  I coached swim team, taught lessons, the works!  Those summers I was usually at the pool for a solid twelve hours a day, at least five days a week.

I smelled of chlorine and my skin was perfectly sun-kissed.  It was the epitome of summer.

Having two small children generally puts a damper on your days of laying out and soaking up the sun, but today I found a way to make it work.  I got both girls to nap at the same time (no small feat), grabbed my favorite parenting magazines (not quite the Cosmo and Teen from back in the day), a cold glass of lemonade, and relaxed by the pool….

Kiddie Pool………………………..$40

Eco Cup……………………………….$5

Parenting Magazine………………$4

Feeling like a kid again…priceless!

Love it!! I need to get a new kiddie pool to lay in, I mean for the kids to play in. About the lettuce. I found lettuce for 50 cents because my grocery store had a head of romaine for 99 cents and I only used half of it.

That is awesome! Yes, I recommend buying a big enough one that you can relax in. 🙂

ahhh the perks of living in a house with a big yard! We live in a condo type unit and I’d have to travel at least 10minutes to the beach to relax and enjoy the sun!

I’m a 10 hour flight from the beach, so I’m jealous! 😉

That is the best, I love your pool!

I live near the beach and NEVER go….just do not like crowds or the sun…

Grew up with a pool though and swam all the time…

I’m with you on crowds. And sand. Ick. But I do love me some sun. 🙂

I LOVE your pool! I have one that’s similar. I live near the beach too and never go, but if I had to fly 10 hours to get there…well, I just don’t know. I like knowing it’s there. Following you from the Finding New Friends Blog Hop. My recent blog post….Right in my own backyard. I make reference to my backyard “pool”. http://christineandcompany.blogspot.com/2011/06/right-in-my-own-backyard.html
Check it out!
