How To Dine Out with Kids

by How To Mommy on 04.07.11

The idea of going out to dinner with your toddler can definitely be a daunting task.

Well fear no more, moms!

I just checked out a new blog and she had some AMAZING tips for eating out and family friendly restaurants.

You’ll be on your way to calm, happy dinners out in no time!

Here are my favorite of her tips {and a few of my own}, but you can check out her whole post here.

Restaurant Survival Tips

  1. Location, Location, Location. {Pick a loud restaurant and it’s less likely to be noticed if (ok, WHEN) the little ones melt down.}
  2. Toss and Trash. {Bring disposable bibs and place mats.  Keep a stash in your car and you’ll never forget them.}
  3. Bring Your Own Entertainment. {Favorite non-electronic toy (nothing is more irritating than teenagers texting at the table ignoring their families…don’t perpetuate it), crayons and paper or even a pen and notebook.}
  4. Go Early. {Less people.  Less waiting.  Everyone wins.}
  5. Order Immediately. {While ordering your drinks order the kids their dinner (or at least an appetizer).}
  6. Keep It Brief. {We know their attention spans.  They can’t handle a five course meal.  Eat, pay, call it a success and go home.}

What works for your family?  Are there any other tips you can share?

Happy eating!

Hi, I’m a new follower from Fab Friends Thursday. My baby is only 8 months, but so far she does very well at restaurants. One thing that seems to have helped is taking her to restaurants from the start. We tend to eat out about once a week. At first, we would bring in her car seat, but now she sits in the high chair. I bring her a high chair cover with toys and her little biscuits (Baby Mum-Mum). So far, she does great. I’m hoping it stays that way!

That is great advice! We’ve taken our two year old out from the beginning and aside from a meltdown here or there she does well too. Thanks for reading. 🙂
